00.01 ➤ WE WERE JUST KIDS
Childhood Verse (ages 0-12)
On October 1st, 1989, 43 children enter this world with no warning. Klaus Hargreeves is the fourth of these children to be adopted abducted by one Reginald Hargreeves, though the name “Klaus” is an arbitrary label that he does not pick up until he’s older. Though Number Four is cursed with his “power” to see the dead, he is a sweet and bubbly child nonetheless. He enjoys the limelight of childhood stardom almost as much as his sister The Rumor, though he knows his powers rarely come in handy when there are actual lives to be saved. While his nights are consistently filled with every child’s worst nightmare, swarmed with ghosts and gory ghouls that cry out for help, his days are spent stealing his mother’s and sister’s clothes, pranking his brothers, and smiling for the cameras as he lives out every child’s dream of being a real life hero.00.02 ➤ DON’T MAKE ME PUT YOU IN TIME OUT
Teen Verse (ages 12-17)
At twelve years old, Number Four trips down the grand staircase at the front of the Hargreeves Mansion after messing around in his mother’s high heels. He shatters his jaw. For most children, the breaking of one’s face would be nothing less than traumatic, but Klaus still thinks this might’ve been the best thing that’s happened to him. Because, after his Mother cuts him open and stitches him back together again, he discovers this wonderful thing called morphine. It makes him wonderfully loopy and numb and for the first time in his entire life, the spectres that hang on him are nowhere to be found!After that, it all goes downhill. He spends his days smoking, drinking, sneaking out whenever his father locks himself away in his office.Then one day, as he’s rolling his post-dinner joint under the table, his brother disappears. He hates himself for being too high to even remember the details; all he knows is one second he’s there yelling some nonsense about time travel, and the next, he’s running out the door.
And that’s when things go from bad to worse. With Five gone, their father has more time and energy to torture the rest of the academy. Reginald has never given his children the impression that he loves them, but after Five’s disappearence, he becomes impossibly crueler and less patient. Klaus’ first mausoleum trip occurs only weeks after his brother’s disappearance, and this specially tailored torture becomes a frequent occurrence that defines Klaus’ teenage years. By the time he leaves home, Klaus is broken beyond repair.00.03 ➤ I WANNA BE NUMB AGAIN
Young Adult Verse (ages 18-29)
Against all odds, Klaus survives. He survives his father’s demented experimentation, he survives despite the voices and spirits that plague his every moment of consciousness, and he somehow survives being thrown into mission after mission, always expected to save the day. But not everyone survives.Ben’s death shouldn’t have been a surprise-- one of them was bound to pay the price for their father’s arrogant savior complex at some point. But not Ben. Without Ben, the academy is down two of it’s most vital members. Klaus leaves not long after Diego. But unlike Number Two, Klaus doesn’t have a plan. All his life he was trained in Crime Fighting 101, not How to be a Functioning, Well Adjusted Adult. Unsurprisingly, it’s hard to hold down a job when you can’t pass a drug test to save your life (and even if you do pass said test, the ghosts don’t exactly go away during business hours).So he lives his life one day at a time. Some days are beautiful- he’s dreamt of this freedom for as long as he can remember, and he finally gets to experience life beyond his little gilded mansion. He meets (and fucks) the most interesting people, he wears whatever the hell he wants, he goes to all the parties he missed out on as a kid, and most importantly, he can do as many drugs as his scrawny body can handle. But the excitement wears off the minute he’s out of cash.He soon finds himself scrambling; desperate for food and money and drugs and a place to sleep. He spends most of his time in Not Very Good Clubs, seducing strangers for the free drinks, pickpocketing anyone and everyone, and more and more often, trading Not Very Good Deeds for Not Very Good Substances. He’s in and out of jail and rehab on a rotating basis, making pit stops at Diego’s place every now and then when he needs an actual night of rest. Though this was not the life he ever envisioned for himself, Klaus doesn’t know any other way to live: all he knows is that he’ll do just about anything to get away from the ghosts. Truthfully, though, he never expected to make it past the age of 20. So, from the ages of 17 through 30, he lives each day as if it’s his last because he genuinely believes it is.00.04 ➤ BEST. Season One Canon Verse
You know the story here, folks. After the death of his father, Klaus makes his way home and is once again tangled in his family’s web of misadventure. He gets kidnapped, travels to the past, falls in love, loses the love of his life, travels back to the future, gets sober, dies, comes back to life, and helps save the world from the impending apocalypse. Post Season One Verse (MAIN)
Somehow, they did it. Apocalypse averted. The Umbrella Academy saves the world but now face an infinitely harder challenge: actually living in it. Klaus spends his days clawing back to sobriety and attempting to piece together the shattered remains of his relationships. He moves back to the Academy now that his father is gone, and tries his best to recuperate from a lifetime of trauma.NOTE: Though this is my default verse for Klaus, it fluctuates a lot! Klaus is not always sober in this verse, and his relationship with Dave varies. Sometimes he’s able to conjure him, sometimes he’s not. Sometimes he’s told his family about him, other times he hasn’t. This is also the vague area where I’ll set most of my crossover threads.

Season Two Canon Divergent Verse
NOTE: as of now, this verse is only available upon request. Season 2 did Klaus dirty and I am not comfortable engaging with the events of S2 canon. I will not reply if it’s apparent to me that you haven’t read through my canon deviance!He's no stranger to time travel, but when Klaus is dropped in 1960 without any signs of his siblings, he faces a whole different set of challenges. Instead of forming a cult, Klaus joins the Anti-War movement, attending protests until he eventually finds himself leading them. He still settles down in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland, eventually gathering enough money to land himself a nice little apartment right in the middle of Haight Street.He still takes advantage of hippie culture, but he also works very hard to maintain his sobriety. While sober, he's able to not only discover the true depths of his powers, but also solidify the powers he already had. He conjures both Dave and Ben to keep him company for these three long years, keeping them corporeal on a semi-consistent basis.Eventually, his efforts lead him back to Dallas for the same reason as Allison: he wants to protest Kennedy’s political agenda (and perhaps do a little possession if he can get close enough). When Allison and Klaus find each other’s protest pamphlets, they’re reunited once more, and join up with the rest of the Hargreeves siblings just in time to save the end of the world...again.00.07 ➤ TBD

Good Omens Crossover Verse
As it turns out, his bastard old man was right: Klaus has lived his whole life only scratching the surface of his potential. The dead will, unfortunately, always be a part of his life. But Klaus also learns that there is so much more out there when his whackjob of a brother drags him and his siblings along to some lame old English village called Tadfield to eliminate the “mark” that is confirmed to end the world. For the first time ever, Klaus’ powers come in handy! Ever since he died and had his little chat with God, not only can he conjure the dead, but he can conjure angels and demons as well. Well, conjure is a strong word. More like...he gets weirdly tingly around preternatural entities, and can sense them from a decent amount of distance. Now, if he can just find that pesky Anti-Christ…ALTERNATE OPTION: Klaus Hargreeves is many things, but important is not exactly top of the list, at least in his mind. He’s the least useful member of the Academy (next to Vanya), and despite his obnoxiously egotistical facade, he knows that he’s the one member of the Hargreeves household that no one will even notice is gone. So, he drinks. And he does any drug he can get his greedy hands on. Not only do the ghosts melt away when he’s losing his goddamn mind on molly or coke, but so does his crippling sense of failure. He has his first overdose at the age of 17, only months after he leaves home. Then again, at the age of 19. And again, and again, and again. But for some odd reason, Klaus can’t seem to die.As it turns out, Klaus is very important (though he still doesn’t know it). Klaus is not only an ex-superhero, but a catalyst for armageddon. Without Klaus, and indeed without the rest of the Umbrella Academy, there is no end of the world. The timeline is set, and like it or not, Klaus has his role to fulfill.So naturally, Heaven and Hell both send their best agents to ensure that this basket case doesn’t end up dead in a gutter before his time is up. But to no one’s surprise, handling Klaus can be extremely difficult. It’s like trying to break up a college frat party: messy, exhausting, and with a surprising amount of nudity. Will a certain Angel and Demon be able to keep their cover while also keeping him alive?00.09 ➤ SING IT OUT FOR THE ONES THAT’LL HATE YOUR GUTS
Punk AU Verse
NOTE: this verse is very loosely based off of the Umbrella Academy mini comic, Anywhere But Here.After Ben’s death, Klaus leaves his childhood home along with his two siblings, Diego and Vanya. Shocked, grieving, and full of rage, the Hargreeves siblings have no idea how to process their loss, and the lifetime of trauma that has marred them into the weird, mal-adjusted teenagers they are today. So like any 17 year olds with a chip on their shoulders- they start a band. Vanya is already a musical prodigy, and has no problem letting go of her classical violin training in order to shred the guitar. Diego prefers to stay out of the limelight, angrily plucking away at his bass from the shadows, perhaps occasionally lending his gruff voice for backup vocals. Klaus, naturally, takes on the role of lead vocalist, strutting about the stage as if he owns the place. Together, they become The Prime 8’s. Their mission: fuck up the Hargreeves legacy. Scream, shout, blow every whistle and burn every building to ensure the world knows exactly what kind of monster their father is. They are no longer those smiling children on lunch pails and magazine covers. They’re here to fuck shit up.
